It's arguably the world's most iconic luxury sports and racing car. And now for the first time in more than four decades, Ferrari is to become a fully independent company. Fiat Chrysler which currently owns 90% of Ferrari is giving up its stake. Our business reporter told me why.

Ferrari is worth, potentially worth a lot of money. It's a fantastic symbol of sports car heritage, if you like. But Fiat needs money at the moment. It has just completed the merger with the American car maker Chrysler. There's a lot of restructuring to be done, a lot of expansion to be done. So Fiat is investing 60 billion dollars in all of this. So it needs to make money in order to finance that investment. The reason for separating Ferrari out into an independent company is because if they do that, if Ferrari is no longer part of this big mass-market car maker with unpredictable profits and stands on its own, it's likely to be more attractive to investors. We'll make Ferrari into an independent company and then we'll sell 10% of the shares on the open market. But the remainder of the shares that Fiat currently owns will be distributed among its own share holders. And that means Italian interests will still continue to hold the bulk of what is Ferrari today. And that means that political problems about selling off the family silver simply don't apply.

Will there be a lot of demand for that 10% that they would sell off?

The signs are that there will be. And shares in Fiat Chrysler, as it's now known, were up substantially on the stock markets in Milan and New York today. And that is because people think that the value realized by selling Ferrari will be substantial. We can only guess. It's hard to say it's struggling. It's hard to say it's failing to find investors in fact.

Lena Dunham is 28 years old. She's been named as one of Time Magazine's 100 Most Influential People In The World. She is a writer, actress, director and creator of the very successful TV comedy series Girls. To add to all that, she's just written her first, an advice style collection of essays entitled Not That Kind of Girl.

My first intention with the book was to process some of the staff that I have experienced in my young life. But my sort of second intention was the idea that I was going to use some of these experiences as warnings to other young women or to try to normalize the challenges of being young and female at this time in history.

You have made your personal life through the very successful HBO series Girls.
